National Assessment on Health and Climate Change Underway

A national assessment of the potential consequences of climate change and variability is currently underway, funded by a network of federal agencies. In addition to 19 regional assessments and one focused on native peoples/native homelands, there are five assessment groups focusing on particular national sectors-agriculture, coastal and marine resources, water, forestry, and human health.

The Health Sector Assessment team is seeking the participation of members of the public health community in defining the scope of our investigation and in reporting on public health concerns and priorities with respect to climate change. We are inviting public health practitioners to participate by reviewing and commenting on our proposed work plan; attending a workshop to be held in early 1999; and reviewing and commenting on a draft report. If you are interested in receiving more information or in participating in the assessment, please send an email to healthfx@jhsph.edu.

Many thanks for your interest.
