Influenza A(H5N1), Hong Kong - Update

The Department of Health has informed today that there are no new cases of influenza A(H5N1) since the 17th case was confirmed on 10 January. One suspect case remains under investigation.

A World Health Organisation (WHO)-organized team of experts has been invited by the Government of the People's Republic of China to collaborate with national authorities in their efforts to review ongoing influenza surveillance activities in Guangdong and Hong Kong and recommend any modifications needed.

The Toll

[8/17 recovered, 2/17 in satisfactory condition, 3/17 remain critically ill, 4/17 dead; 9/17 were young children, 2/17 were adolescents, 6/17 aged between 19 and 60 years; 13/17 had onset of illness in December 1997.
