Researchers to Unveil Study Saying Food Safety Law Implementation Could Hurt Farmers and Consumers; Help Foreign Growers

 

 

What: Researchers from Texas A&M and Auburn Universities, working with scientists from 10 other land-grant universities, conducted a study on the impacts that a ban on two major classes of pesticides would have on farmers and consumers. The Environmental Protection Agency is currently re-evaluating the pesticides as mandated by the 1996 Food Quality Protection Act. EPA is expected to make decisions on some major pesticides later this year.

Who: Dr. Ron Knutson of Texas A&M’s Agricultural and Food Policy Center; Dr. Robert Taylor of Auburn; and Dr. George Gray of the Harvard School of Public Health’s Center for Risk Analysis. Members of the House Agriculture Committee may also speak.
