As human exploration of Mars and other planets moves from the realm of fantasy to real possibility, a host of environmental questions arise. Could exploration or colonization inadvertently endanger life forms that might exist on Mars? If microbes exist on other planets, could they pose any risks to Planet Earth if brought back by astronauts? Looking at lessons from our own planet, what steps should we take to protect other planetary bodies in the solar system? These are some of the questions that will be considered in a public forum open to EPA employees.
WHEN: Tuesday, March 30, from 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM.
WHERE: The EPA Headquarters Auditorium, Waterside Mall
WHO: Dr. Norine Noonan, Assistant Administrator for the Office of Research and Development (ORD) and Chairman of NASA's Planetary Protection Task Force, will represent EPA. Other speakers will be Lori Garver, Associate Administrator for Policy and Plans at NASA, and Pat Dasch, Executive Director of the National Space Society.
